How Long Does Botox® Last?

How Long Does Botox® Last?

Botox® injections have come a long way over the last decade. Today, it’s possible to receive treatment while maintaining natural movement in your eyebrows and facial expressions — all while reducing or eliminating fine lines and wrinkles. This ensures you look refreshed, not frozen, and helps postpone visible signs of aging.

While Botox® delivers excellent results, it isn’t permanent. To maintain your smoother, more youthful look, ongoing treatments are required. So how often should you get Botox® — and how long does it last?

Let’s explore what you can expect, including what influences how long Botox® lasts and how to make your results last longer.

Factors That Impact How Long Botox® Lasts

No two patients experience Botox® the same way. Several factors affect how long your results will last, including:

  • Amount of Botox® used and treatment area Larger or stronger muscles (like the forehead) may require more units and may wear off sooner than smaller areas.
  • Age and skin condition Younger patients often experience longer-lasting results due to higher collagen levels and better skin elasticity.
  • Metabolism A faster metabolism can break down the neurotoxin more quickly, shortening its effects.
  • Wrinkle depth and skin thickness Deeper wrinkles often reappear sooner as muscles regain movement, especially in areas like the forehead.

Do Results Last Longer with Repeat Injections?

Yes — in many cases, patients experience longer-lasting results with consistent Botox® use.

When the same muscles are treated over time, they begin to shrink and weaken slightly from lack of movement. This means even as the Botox® wears off, the muscles may not contract as strongly, helping results hold longer between appointments.

That said, everybody is different. Some people continue to require treatments every 3 months, while others can stretch to 5 or even 6 months with consistent care.

So, How Long Will Botox® Injections Last?

Most patients can expect Botox® results to last 3 to 4 months. In some cases, they may fade earlier (around 2 months) or last longer (up to 6 months). Your first round of injections is often a learning experience — for both you and your injector.

At The Skin Center by CPS, we’ll evaluate your skin, goals, and muscle movement to provide the most accurate plan possible. After your first treatment, we’ll have a better idea of how your body responds, allowing us to fine-tune your dose and treatment intervals.

Injection Intervals & Treatment Planning

After your first Botox® treatment:

  • We typically recommend a 2-week follow-up to assess your results and make any minor adjustments.
  • From there, treatments are usually spaced every 3 to 4 months, depending on how long your results last.
  • If your Botox® fades earlier than expected, it’s best to wait at least 3 full months before re-treating. This allows your muscles to fully process the neurotoxin and ensures better long-term outcomes.
